Colonial Williamsburg in central Virginia is a true colonial town, preserved through the accidents of history and maintained with a dedication to excellence. You can visit, even staying for a few days, where you can live in the same rooms Tom Jefferson might have used (although he had rich relatives in town). I’ve been several times, and got lucky in January 2010: it snowed! Big time!
